1 – Copyright
· Definition-
The exclusive and assignable legal right, given to the originator for a
fixed number of years, to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary,
artistic, or musical material.

Who is the PRS?
PRS for
Music is a society of songwriters, composers
and music publishers. We license the use of our members' musical compositions
and lyrics when they are played in public, broadcast on radio or TV, used on
the internet or copied onto physical products such as CDs or DVDs
·
Who is the MCPS?
The
Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS), established in 1924, is a
not-for-profit organization that currently represents over 17,000 composers, songwriters and music
publishers. The essential function of MCPS is to collect and distribute
royalties.

Advantages and disadvantages
It protects the rights of
producers and their ability to earn money from their products.

2 -Data Protections

Definition
Legal control over access, use of data stored in
computers.

Why does it matter?
So that people who have information and data stored about themselves can
keep it protected legally.

Infringement issues
Information Commissioners also have the power to serve a monetary
penalty notice on a data controller.

Who regulates this?
The government in the UK regulates data
protection
·

Group 3 – Health and safety

Define
Regulations and procedures intended to prevent
accident or injury in workplaces or public environments.

Why is it important?
Health and Safety is important because it protects the well
being of employers, visitors and customers. Looking after Health and Safety makes good business
sense. Workplaces, which neglect health
and safety risk prosecution, may lose staff, and may increase costs and
reduce profitability.

Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages – People remain safe and no one
will get hurt.
Disadvantages – People can go against some
health and safety rules, which of course can lead to errors and casualties.

Group 4 – Libel, defamation, privacy and equality

Define each term separately
Libel- A published false statement that is damaging to a
person's reputation; a written defamation.
Defamation - the action of damaging the good
reputation of someone
Privacy - a state in which one is not observed or
disturbed by other people.
Equality- he state of being equal, especially in
status, rights, or opportunities.
